Trip to the Emergency Room

5 Jun

Well, last night we had our first trip to the emergency room with Lydia. Yesterday afternoon she started making some strange sounds that sounded like she was having a hard time breathing and she was very upset. She is normally a very content baby so after a call to the nurse and my mom, I decided to take her in. (We would have gone into the Dr’s office, but they were full.) Three hours, 4 x-rays, and a jaundice test later we were cleared to go home. The Dr. wasn’t sure what the sounds were from, but she did say Lydia is full of gas. She also still has a little jaundice. So basically we went into the ER to find out Lydia has gas. At least I know she is ok and that makes me a more relaxed mom. All I can say is, I hope your child never has to get a chest x-ray. It was an awful thing to watch. They had to put her in this plastic case with her hands held up over over head to keep her still. We were both crying. The whole experience just made me even more thankful for how healthy and wonderful she is. Today she has been great, no more funny sounds.

On a much happier note, Lydia has been sleeping 6-8 hours a night for that last week!!!! It has been awesome! Before she was born I had several friends recommend the book “On Becoming Baby Wise”. Most of them who had read it and applied the principles had babies sleep through the night at a very young age. I was all about that, so I read it. I’m sure some of it has to do with Lydia, but the principles from the book seem to have worked for us as well!!! Probably the two biggest things we’ve tried to do is to keep her awake for a little bit after she eats, and to let her cry when she goes to bed. Yes, it is sometimes very hard to listen to her cry, but it is getting easier, and she cries less. Getting a full nights rest is definitely worth it.

Poor baby…but glad to here all is well!! I will always remember the fews awful medical procedures the girls have had to gone through and it still makes me shudder!

Makes me wonder how parents with seriously ill children go through it!

Anyway…Lydia sure is growing and getting cuter and cuter (if that’s possible)

We were sure glad to know that Lydia didn’t have any serious problems. In the picture it looks like she is keeping an eye on what is happening. It must have been hard for you to watch her go through the x-rays, but good to find out that her lungs were ok. She is such a cutie.
