Our new favorite budgeting tool

21 Sep

We recently starting using a new online tool to help us with our budgeting.  It’s called Mvelopes.  We used to use Quicken, but I think this system is so much better.  It allows you to set up “envelopes” and put money in them for different categories like groceries or clothes.  It teaches you to save first, then spend instead of just spending and then trying to figure out where to get money to pay your bills at the end of the month.

You should check it out if you’re trying to be better at tracking your spending.

Have you tried Mint.com? It sounds like there are some similarities. We’ve been using it for over a year and love it, and it’s completely free! It’s owned by Quicken too. It allows you to integrate all of your accounts so you can budget, track your spending, savings, loans, credit cards, etc.

I did try mint after quicken.com shut diwn and I didn’t like it. Mvelopes is easier to use for me and has helped us change the way we think about our spending. Thanks though!

Brenda an I are using Mvelopes too. It is a great tool. We really like the the before you spend it tracking, rather than the “this is what you already did. We are hoping the it will help us to be more generous.
