The wait is over!

15 Jun

We are so thrilled to welcome our third precious baby into the world, Owen Daniel Hershberger!

7 pounds 4 ounces, 20.75 inches, 14 inch head, born at 12:22 am on June 14

Of course we are already in love and think he is pretty wonderful. Here are a few photos of his first hours of life. I wrote out the details of his birth after the photos if you’re interested.

For those of you interested in more details about his birth, here you go.
The morning of the 13th I had my 39 week check up and I was dilated to 3 cm. By mid morning I started having mild contractions, but tried not to get too excited, but that afternoon they were consistently 5 minutes apart.
My mom showed up around 4:00 to watch the girls and after my third walk of the day, and some dinner, Dustin and I decided to head to the hospital. I felt weird going in because my contractions still weren’t very strong.
At 7:00 Dustin and I were walking around the hospital hoping to help things progress. At 8:30 my water broke and then things really got going. It’s crazy how you forget just how much those contractions hurt. Ouch!
Around 10:00 I got an epidural and was able to get a little rest. (I know there are differing opinions about epidurals, but I know it is the right decision for me. What an amazing difference if makes.)
Shortly before midnight I was completely dilated and the Dr was called. After about 10 minutes of pushing Owen was born!
We are both doing great and very excited to head home tomorrow and start being a family of 5.

39 weeks and still waiting

10 Jun

I’m so ready to meet this little guy! Everything is still going well and my body is getting ready to have this baby. I go to bed every night thinking “this is going to be the night!”, but so far we are still waiting. With the temperature going into the 90’s this weekend I’ve been spending most of my time inside with the AC on and fans blowing on me. Even with that I’m still hot. 🙂
It’s so fun to think that in the next week we should be holding a new little baby!

One last baby project, a carseat canopy

7 Jun

I don’t remember seeing these when the girls were born, but now I am seeing carseat canopies all over the place. I decided that they seemed like a great idea and I needed to make one for this little guy. I looked up some simple tutorials online, and here’s what I ended up with.

Pretty cute right? I love when I see practical ideas that are easy to make for myself.

Ok baby, you can come now!

Baby news at 20 weeks

3 Feb

We’re officially half way!!!  At our ultrasound this week we found out we are expecting a healthy little BOY this June!!!  We are very excited!

This little guy sure does move around a lot and I feel him kicking all the time.  I’ll try to get a belly shot up soon, I feel like I’ve really “popped” in the last few weeks.  Here’s a ultrasound pic of our little guy.  That little profile just melts my heart. 🙂

16 weeks with number 3

6 Jan

I’m 16 weeks along now with this little sweet pea. I’m so thankful to be through all the “morning” sickness and have some more energy. As far as the belly goes, I’d just like to say that my body is much less forgiving the third time around. I’ve been showing for weeks!

Our Exciting News

2 Dec

Dustin and I have exciting news and just can’t wait until Christmas to share!  We are PREGNANT with baby number 3!!!  I’m about 12 weeks along and due June 19.  The Dr. said everything looks great and the baby has a strong heartbeat! I’m thrilled to be nearing the end of the 1st trimester and hoping my energy will soon return and that the nauseousness will soon fade.  We haven’t decided yet if we’ll find out if this baby is a boy or girl.  Lydia is convinced it’s a girl. 🙂  She is super excited that we’re having another baby, and possibly even more excited that she and Ellie will be getting bunk beds.

Ellie’s Birth Story

16 Apr

For those of you who are interested, I thought I’d share Ellie’s birth story.

Since I was 4 days early with Lydia, I really thought Ellie would come early too.  Every night for two weeks I would go to bed thinking I would wake up in the middle of the night with contractions and every morning I’d wake up without them.  I had my 40 week check up on March 31 and I was 3 cm dialated.  The Dr stripped my membranes to encourage labor to start.  She said its a 50/50 chance that it will induce labor, but I wanted to try.  My appointment was at 2:00 and by 4:00 I was having mild contractions!  Throughout the evening the contractions starting getting stronger and were about 6-7 minutes apart.  Dustin and I went for a couple walks to keep things moving.  I went to bed hoping to get some rest.  I slept off and on until about 4:00 am.  At that point the contractions were 4-5 minutes apart and were much stronger.  Soon they were 2-3 minutes apart.

I then called the Dr.  She said I didn’t sound like I was in much pain and that I was in the early stages of labor.  WHAT!  My body told me otherwise so Dustin and I headed to the hospital around 5:00 am.  Thankfully my mom had arrived on the 31st, so she was here to watch Lydia.

By this point the contractions were really strong and consistently 2 minutes apart.  I got an epidural shortly after arriving at the hospital.  I know there are different philosophies on taking drugs during labor, but for me, epidurals are the way to go.

This time my water didn’t break on its own, so around 9am the Dr broke it.  By 10 I was ready to push, but I had to wait for the Dr to get back from an appointment.  Those few minutes of waiting felt like forever.  When she finally got there it took about 10 minutes of pushing and Ellie was out!

It really was an “easy” labor and delivery considering I was pushing out a baby.  The Dr said I’m meant to have babies because I have a really roomy pelvis.  Ellie didn’t have a cone-head at all.  Thank you God for blessing me with wide hips!

So far Ellie has been a wonderful baby.  She is very content almost all of the time.  She sleeps for 3-4 hour stretches at night and is an excellent eater.  At her 10 day check up she already weighed a half of a pound over her birth weight!  (That’s double the normal weight gain.)

Pregnancy Update

25 Mar

Just a quick update on my pregnancy.  I’m 39 weeks today.  I had a doctor’s appointment yesterday and I’m dilated to 2 cm, the baby’s head is down, and she said everything looks great.  The last few days I’ve been having random contractions, so I’m hoping that means things are going to happen soon.  I’m ready to meet this baby!

(Also, I’m about 20 lbs lighter this time around, which I’m super pumped about!  And I’m still wearing my wedding ring and normal shoes due to less weight and swollenness!)

Fun mail always makes me happy

3 Mar

I had been looking for a fun prop to use when we take newborn pictures of the baby and I decided I wanted a knitted cocoon.  I searched all over, mostly on Etsy, and finally found this adorable one with a matching hat from Craft Nikki on Etsy.  So precious!

It finally came in the mail today!!! I love it and can’t wait to take some fun photos with our new baby in it!

Baby Update

25 Jan

I realized that I haven’t given a baby update since the middle of November!  Whoops!  Well, I’m over 30 weeks already and things seem to be going really well.  I had a slight scare when I failed my first glucose test, but I passed the 3 hour test no problem.  (If you fail that means you have gestational diabetes.)

This little girl is quite the wiggle worm, especially at night.  Do I need to be worried about long sleepless nights once she’s here??

I thought about posting a picture of my belly, but trust me I’m looking pregnant.  Instead I decided to post this video.  I posted it last year too around this time.  It gets me every time I watch it.  What a miracle babies are, both in the womb and out!   I feel so blessed to be able to carry this little life for 9 months.  With under 10 weeks to go, I’m getting more and more excited to hold this little girl.
