A new cabinet for the bathroom

13 Jun

I’ve had this cabinet sitting in the basement for over a year and I decided it was finally time to paint it and hang it up. I used white spray paint and then sanded it off to give it distressed look.

Here it is hanging in the girls bathroom. By the way, I’m still in love with this shower curtain. ūüôā

A fresh new look

5 Jun

We’ve been busy the last couple months refreshing our entryway, dining room, living room and upstairs hallway. While I still need to make some finishing touches like curtains and hanging things back on the walls, the major part of this project is over….thank goodness. I LOVE how it all turned out! As always, I’m terible about remembering to take before pictures. I just get so excited about starting a project that I forget to take pictures. I managed to find a few taken from other times.

Dustin completely rebuilt our front closet and turned it into a “mudroom”.

When we moved in we painted this whole area a gray/green color. I liked it at first, but it started to feel sad and I needed a change. We decided to go with Benjamin Moore Shaker Beige for our new color. It still has a little gray in it, but it feels so much fresher! We also painted all the trim, except for the banister, white to match what we’ve done in other rooms of the house. I don’t feel like these pictures do any justice to how great everything turned out. But here are some before and after shots.

Garage Sale Successes

17 May

I have always LOVED going to garage sales. My mom I used to have so much fun going to them together when I was growing up and now I love going to them with the girls. We’ve been having some pretty good success so far this summer. Today was no exception. For just around $40, here’s what we found:

-I’ve been looking for some cute old suitcases to store dress up clothes or doll toys in, at $1 each these beauties are perfect!
-I’ve been looking for a new angel food cake pan because the hole in the top of mine isn’t big enough to fit on a bottle. Not only is this one the right size, but its made in the USA too! Got to love that!
-Two pairs of Robeeze shoes for our little man. They are in perfect condition too!
-The little glass jar has a metal cover with holes in it that I think will be just perfect for little flowers.
-The tarnished silver basket is hopefully going to work as a photo prop along with this:

-You’ll have to stay tuned to see if it all works out. I figured, if I don’t use it I might be able to cash it in for its value in silver right?
-The vintage sheets were $0.50 and they have a really fun pattern. I’m not totally sure what they’ll be turned into yet.
-The two cute old white vintage linens are for decorating, and the old frame will be getting a new photo to put in it.
-How could I pass up that super cute white chair?! So great for the deck and as a photo prop.
-And of course, the little tikes car. I’ve been wanting to get one of these for years and I finally caved. The girls love it of course!

What a fun morning!

15 May

I’ve never been very good at taking care of plants, but I love having them around the house and outside. They make me feel happy. I have somehow managed to keep a ficus tree alive for over 6 years and I have a plant my mom gave me a few years ago that can go weeks and weeks without water and needs very little attention. Everything else I’ve gotten has ended up dead.

I may have found a new plant love….succulents! From everything I hear they are very hardy and almost indestructible. We shall see :). Dustin and the girls got me these fun succulents for mothers day. Aren’t they the cutest little plants! I love them!

Some inspiration

17 Jun

I love reading blogs and getting fun new ideas. ¬†Here are a few things I’d like to try soon.

The Perfect Iced Coffee

Framed Hand Prints

Homemade Chicken Nuggets

Make a quilt/blanket out the vintage sheet’s I’ve been collecting

Make sourdough bread from scratch

Make my own laundry soap

The new kitchen

15 Jun

After we went through our kitchen and minimalized it, I decided I wanted to paint the walls.  I am thrilled with the results! Ultimately I want to paint the cabinets white and get new countertops, but I already think the new wall color makes a huge difference.

(As you can see, I also put away/got rid of more stuff on my counters in the process.  I should have taken a before picture before I started this minimalist thing.  I also used to have my kitchen aid mixer, a spice rack, and a bunch of kitchen utensils out on the counters.  There was also random things on top of all the cabinets.  I LOVE how much less clutter there is now!!)

Love my new red lights!!! We just spray painted the old 80's brass lights.

I love this poster we got at the Minneapolis Artcrank event.

Birthday plans

13 Feb

I LOVE birthdays and birthday parties and I’m so excited to throw a party for our girls in April.¬† I know, April is two months away, but its just much fun to think about girly parties!¬† At this point I have lots of ideas, but I’m not quite sure who they’ll all come together yet.¬† Here are few ideas I have floating around my head:

I'm planning to make one of these for each of the girls! So cute!

I'd also like to make a birthday banner like this....

.....or this one.

A successful first craft show

21 Nov

Well, my first craft show was a success! Here is a photo of my table. There over 140 tables at the sale selling everything you can think of. I had so much fun and will be back next year! My biggest sellers were the ruffle scarves. (you can sort of see one of the green ones in the middle of the table.) I sold out before we opened the second day and then started taking orders. Let me know if you’d like one! I sold a little of everything that I brought, so that was nice. It was fun to do a little shopping while I was there too.

Our new bathroom

5 Nov

Our upstairs bathroom was the last room that still needed to be painted in our house.¬† I don’t have a before picture, but it was gray with oak colored trim.¬† I went to Bed Bath and Beyond to get a new shower curtain.¬† I was originally looking for something purple, but this one just jumped off the shelf at me.¬† (It is an Amy Butler design afterall. ūüôā )

The walls were temporarily a lime green color, but after one coat I decided that it was a poor choice.¬† Now its a cream color, and I’m really happy with it.¬† I also painted the woodwork white.¬† This wire design used to hang over our guest bed, but now it makes a prefect addition to the bathroom!

More distressing

3 Nov

After my success with distressing the table and chairs for the girls, I tried another project.¬† I found these unpainted shelves at Hobby Lobby this summer and I finally got around to painting them.¬† First I sprayed them black, then white, and then I sanded them to distress them.¬† I think they make a great addition to the old window that’s been hanging on the wall all by itself for at least a year.
